0601215 Bobby and Rose Tauton with their Duclcimer Quartet

Due to a lack of timing with available cd samples and an onslaught of ongoing pastoral duties and website management issues, this blog posting is long overdue. But here we are. A wonderful example of the cd entitled "Heartstrings" by the Duclcimer Quartet. This cd presnets a program of Christmas favorites "with heart." It includes

1. "Christmas Time's A-Coming/Overture (Traditional) HarStrings has a great time with this opening medley. Bob and Barbara exchange banjo and hammered dulcimer leads. Arrangement by Heart Strings.

2. "Juda's Land" (Traditional) The quartet gives this rendition a "crooked tune" feel. Rose does the vocal.

3. "Come Thous Long-Expected Jesus (Hyfrydo. traditional) Used for dosens of church hymns, this tune ahs a 60's rock and roll feel when played by the string band. Bob warbles the voal.

4. Angels We Have Heard on High (Traditional French Carol) This inspirational presentation adds a measure between phrases on the verse part by Michael Shull from his "Culcimer Chrismas" CD, but the quartet came up with the echo effect.

5. "In the Bleak Mid-Winter" (Traditional) Betty sings this favorite. Arrangements was inspired by Tull Glazner's tab, though the quartet added the "walking bass".

6. "Friendly Beasts/Away in the Manger" (Traditional French carol) Made popular by Peter, Paul and Mary, but it now includes the new United Methodist Hymnal three-quarter time arrangement.

7. "Bring a Torch, Jeanette, Isabella" (Traditional) Barbara sings the French text.

8. "Child in the Manger" (Traditional) This tune is from "Morning Has Broken" with arrangement by Larry Conger. Rose wrote and played thw whistle descant on the 3rd verse.

9. "Stille Nacht" (Traditional) Betty uses her Lutheran background to sing the original German text.

10. "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" (Copyright 1940 by James Vaughn Music Publisher) Bob sings lead and picks quitar while the ladies sing back-up.

11. "What Childe is This?" (Traditional English carol, Greensleeves) Bettyu sings lead and plays bowed psaltery.

12. "Lord of the Dance" THIS PIECE IS LINKED TO TO THIS ARTICLES TITLE. It is based on a Traditional Shaker tune with words by Sydney Carter. Published in the United Methodist Hymnal at #261. Inspiration came from the Mill Run Culcimer Band. Bob plays "Simple Gifts" on the banjo.
