070703 Tuesday Prayer Breakfast - George Noblin

The only prayers official said at this breakfast were before going through the food line. But the civic information organized by our friend Georgette Sadler (90 years and going strong) was intended to help all practicing and faithful Christians to do good works in our communities by actively voting for good leaders and making sure that others have voiced their vote in peaceful ways instead of the violent ways exemplified in other parts of the world.
In this message from Montgomery County's chairman of the Board of Voting Registrars - George Noblin the listener can obtain up to date information about how to register to vote so as to exercise one of our most important civil liberties in this country. On the eve of the 4th of July George reminds us that Alabama had a "Record Turnout" for voter registration in the last presidential election but not in the local elections. About 7,300 people registered to vote in Montgomery County in October 2004 alone.
Associated Press quoted Judy Wagnon of the Alabama Secretary of State's Office having said that 2,843,111 voters were registered in 2004. That's 39,237 less than in 2000, but we still ended up with a record voter turn out when absentee votes were counted and after George and other election officials finished purging voter rolls of those who have died or left the state.
The Montgomery County Board of Registrars consists of three members appointed by the Governor of Alabama, the Alabama State Auditor, and the Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries. The Board is appointed for four-year terms.
