070320 Tuesday Breakfast with Mose Stuart on Ephesians 4:1-16
Mose Stuart is a beloved member of ChristChurchXP, the Anglican congregation that also worships in our Dexter Avenue United Methodist buildings. He is also a lay pastor to several people in our community. In this message Mose argues for the centrality of lay ministries in the church based on scripture.
Ephesians 4:1-16 is the general scriptural reference, but verses 11 and 12 provide the most convincing portrayal of how those not holding special titles such as "priest" yet offering gifts and graces for service in and through the church should be the first line of ministry and not the last. Mose also quotes the Book of Common prayer catechism, which answers the question as to who ministers are but stating that all believers are ministers, beginning with the laity, then bishops, then priests and deacons. He interpretes this to mean that the "priesthood of all believers" is the calling to ministry for everyone.
