070131 Cops for Christ - Ron Smith
Mature Christians in public service can act as lay pastors for all those whom they serve - even for those who act as their enemies.
How do Christians - who happen to be also engaged in "public service" as police, fire fighters, soldiers, emergency responders or people in any other kind of hazardous, life threatening occupation - how do they find ways to pastor each other, those whom they serve and protect and even those who threaten to destroy all they strive to protect and defend? This is a very big question that does not allow for an easy or even "complete" question from human messengers. But the Lord Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit by the power and to the glory of the Father will find ways to do this in spite of our limited and feeble efforts.
The background sounds are from the Chic-Fil-A in the RSA Tower just one block from Dexter Avenue United Methodist Church. Approximately fifteen police, sheriff’s deputies, federal officers, fire fighters and other public servants were present for this message. Resource material referred to in this message include: Frederick Buechner’s The Magnificent Defeat Max Lucado’s Children’s Bible and the Apostolic Father’s Dediche (The Teachings of the Early Church - before the Christian Bible was canonized).
